After noticing that the traffic for Flexjobs.com has increased steadily over the past year since its launch, we checked in with CEO Sara Sutton Fell to talk about new changes implemented on the job site that offers telecommuting opportunities.
Fell said she recently changed to a subscription model that charges job seekers $14.95 per month to access current listings, receive new job alerts, and create resumes.
She also said more employers are posting on the site because her team researches and qualifies each job to present only legitimate opportunities that are across “a wide variety of professional categories, not just data entry and virtual customer service.”
Fell took what she learned from starting JobDirect, a site that was sold in 2000 to Korn/Ferry and applied that knowledge base to FlexJobs.
“Our service is more of a database model, where users can be found and contacted by employers, compared with most of the other services that are just job boards,” Fell said. “We also do not offer advertising, which is definitely an exception to the rule in job services.”
Former job seeker Vikki Olds of La Pine, Oregon, got a job a year ago as a Graphic Design and Web Producer via FlexJobs for a site called LoveToKnow.com. She said she was surprised by the validity of the opportunities. “The jobs listed were real jobs that you could support your family with,” she said. “There were no scams.”
Fell said that new employers include ChaCha Search, VIPdesk, UserTesting, Global Career Centers, and Grindstone.
