Despite the $12 million in VC funding BountyJobs recently received, it’s Dayak.com that both recruiters and
companies are starting to consider when searching for an online recruiting marketplace. According to Compete.com, BountyJobs was always the leader in traffic up until about a month ago, when Dayak finally began overtaking the site, gaining a sizable lead over its #1 competitor.
I asked Dayak CEO Allan Sabol why he thinks the site is gaining in popularity.
“Dayak is quickly overtaking BountyJobs because of our unique business model,” Sabol said. “We are focused on providing employers with the most effective recruiting tool possible, but at a substantial savings.”
Sabol said that while recruiting fees on BountyJobs average about $20,000 to $25,000, Dayak offers reduced fees at a 40-50 percent savings for employers.
“Most companies will not pay $8,000-10,000 for entry-level positions like truck drivers, clerical workers,
mechanics, laborers, etc. Because of Dayak’s unique marketplace model, we are opening up an entirely new
recruiting market for lower-level positions that was previously not served by the recruiting industry.”
Sabol also pointed out that BountyJobs’ business model is a closed market system that is focused on vendor management. “They sell large companies on the vendor management model and then integrate all of the client’s existing recruiting vendors under BJ. Then they require an engagement process for other outside recruiters to be able to work on jobs, discouraging new competition in favor of the existing recruiting vendors.”
Sabol said that Dayak does provide a vendor management solution, but it is not the core focus on the business. The door is open to any recruiter, as long as they can fill the jobs.
He also said while BountyJobs is biased towards recruiting firms, Dayak is focused on linking employers with the 80,000 independent recruiters in the U.S., who may not have otherwise been given the opportunity to work for the kind of companies posting on Dayak.
“We give small and large companies the ability to leverage the experience and skill of the independent recruiters and boutique firms who can fill positions quickly and for a much more reasonable fee.”

Smuz is an affiliate of Dayak and we have seen a lot of signups from our users since joining. I have inquired with BountyJobs about an affiliate program but they don’t currently offer one. I’m sure tapping into a group of 100% commission based sales providers has contributed to their success so far.

What both bountyjobs and dayak fail to get is the fact that no recruiter wants to split their fee simply for the benefit of sending a resume to a company. One of the reasons all independent recruiters leave their firm to go on their own is the fact that the percentage the firm takes is exorbitant. As a recruiter I worked a couple of jobs on Bj but then encouraged the company to use recruitalliance who do not take any portion of the fee PLUS i control my own billing. Now dayak wants to not only take part of my fee they are encouraging companies to lower the fee. What a deal..!
