Yahoo! HotJobs has a few tricks up their sleeve to rope in some new business from both companies and job seekers.
HotJobs’s VP of Product and Strategy, Kevin Krim, said that they will be rolling out ”HotJobs 100,” a list of companies ranked by their current hiring needs. HotJobs will run their own analysis and select companies with the highest number of postings on their job board for inclusion.
“It’s important for HR managers, recruiters, and other decision-makers working at these large companies to
realize that job seekers don’t just go to a job board to find a job,” Krim said. “They go to a board like HotJobs to look at the weather report, like a barometer that indicates what’s happening in the job market. It’s critical for all companies to be represented on a list like this so people realize that even in this environment people are hiring.”
The announcement of the list, ungenerated as of yet, could boost HotJob’s revenue as companies clamor to buy more postings and be recognized as “hot,” a result that Krim said would be a welcome side effect, but not the true intention.
“The goal is to encourage job seekers when there is so much negative talk out there. We are trying to give them hope despite all these dark clouds.”
The list debuts in September and is set to refresh quarterly. Krim said to expect to see companies in the technology, education, government, and healthcare sectors as strong contendors for the top spots.

So this offing is biased to a) large or b) growing-like crazy companies. This doesn’t do anything for smaller to mid-size and makes them less likely to find value in HotJobs. An interesting way to define “top” for sure. It does nothing to peak my interest in wanting to hear more or sign up (already a current customer). Pass.

The true intention isn’t revenue? Then maybe they should offer them for free like Smuz :-)
