If you think your AARP membership is only good for half-off Monday’s pancake platter, think again. The organization for age 50+ members is now teaming up with RetirementJobs.com to offer a job search engine on AARP.org/jobs.
The online collaboration is a response to a recent AARP survey that found that nearly 8 out of 10 Baby Boomers plan to work into their retirement years. The survey also showed that one in four older workers say they postponed plans to retire because of the recent economic downturn.
Deborah Russell, AARP’s Director of WorkForce Programs (click here for an in-depth profile of Russell), said giving the nearly 40 million AARP members access to RetirementJob’s database was a natural solution. “Given that nearly half of AARP’s members are currently working, our new collaboration with RetirementJobs.com will add great breadth to AARP’s career site by providing our members opportunities to find job openings and transition into new jobs.”
Tim Driver, CEO of RetirementJobs.com, said, “The search engine on AARP is unlike any other in that it highlights jobs from companies we’ve certified as age-friendly. As part of our business, we have a professional research group that operates a Consumer Reports-like evaluation process for determining which U.S. companies are going out of their way to hire and retain people over 50.”
A quick local search for Cleveland yielded a broad variety of opportunities, including customer support specialists, exterminators, retail, and banking positions.
Driver said they will also be hosting career advice content and a blog on AARP’s site.
