Online videoconferencing companies are targeting “green” companies by promoting the inexpensive, environmentally-friendly virtual interview.

FutureResume.com, a site that supplies companies with the tools they need to conduct virtual interviews and allows job seekers to post video intros to their resume, has launched GreenJobInterview.com. This new tool connects employer and candidate with point-and-click video conferencing solutions, no software required.

The product is being touted by FutureResume’s President Greg Rokos as a “win/win for both job seekers, hiring companies, and the environment, too.”

When a client sees someone on the FutureResume site that they are interested in, they can click on the GreenJobInterview button, where they will be directed to payment instructions and details on how to begin the virtual interview.

John Porter, president of virtual interviewing site Interview Connect, said that with video interviewing there is “a complete elimination of a carbon footprint.”

But convincing companies to abandon traditional methods of interviewing is still going to be a hard sell.

“The biggest challenge facing virtual interviewing right now is not technology, as the components needed, like broadband internet and inexpensive web cams, are available to almost everyone. But many HR managers are still uncomfortable with virtual interviewing, as they prefer a face-to-face encounter.”

Still, Porter said, it is clear that virtual interviewing will become more popular as HR managers increase their comfort level and realize that it saves time, money, and the environment.
