CollegeRecruiter.com, an online job board for students and recent graduates, has announced that they will be auctioning an opportunity on eBay.com to sponsor their September 25 webinar, entitled “How To Use Cell Phone Text Messaging to Recruit College Students.”
Steven Rothberg, president of CollegeRecruiter.com, said that the idea came to him while watching screens at the Republican National Convention that were asking their audience to donate to Hurricane Gustav relief.
“I used to serve on the board of non-profit Nechama: Jewish Response to Disaster and spent almost a week in Mississipppi and Louisiana immediately after Katrina doing logistics and laying some of the early groundwork for our hundreds of volunteers to spend two years doing clean-up work down there,” Rothberg said. “I hope that one or more of the HR industry players decides that a sponsorship of the webinar makes sense for their business and that the donation of 100 percent of their sponsorship dollars makes good sense for the Gulf Coast communities, and therefore our nation.”
Rothberg said that his last webinar on Facebook recruiting had 500 attendees, which was about five times the amount he had anticipated. After announcing the webinar, he was approached by several companies who offered to sponsor the session.
“We do the webinars for branding and client relations, not for revenue generation, so our thought on them wasn’t to use them as a profit center but instead as a way to market the site,” he said. “Yet it seemed foolish to leave sponsorship money on the table especially when each of the organizations which approached us were blue chippers in the HR industry.”
Bidding begins at $.99 and ends on September 9.
