In an attempt to keep scammers off their job listings, Craigslist will begin charging people to post in more cities.
Effective October 15, it will charge $25 to post job ads in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami (South Florida), Philadelphia, and Phoenix.
A company spokesperson said, “I personally cannot wait. Job seekers get frustrated when they have to go through 10 or 20 job postings that are nothing but work from home, commission, bs, and other types of scams.”
Twenty-five dollars is still a small number in comparison to what Monster and CareerBuilder charge. I think many companies will happily pay the fee if it means that scammers may be deterred by the money.

I think this is great as well. As a Canadian Craigslist user I would mind them start charging for Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

Craigslist just started charging for Atlanta job postings as well. On a hunch, I started a site because they were posting. One benefit is that if you do see a fake posting, you can mark it as such and it will go away. This will hopefully keep posting free and also deter spammers. jahbs.com
