I got this email in my inbox yesterday with the subject line, “No more monkey business.” Cute, I thought.
Then I saw that the sender was from Jenna Miranda, Director of Operations at a new online auction-style site called WorkGorilla.com “where anyone who needs work done can come to find the right person for that job.”
Even more adorable. Get it? WorkGorilla = no more monkey business? Do you get it?
Here’s how it works: a person needs to find someone for a quick job like walking their dog, painting their house, or watching their kid for a couple hours. They post the job on WorkGorilla, and people can bid on the job. The person who posted can choose to accept if they so please.
Posting and bidding on jobs are both free, so the site’s only source of revenue might be ads, for now at least.
As of noon today, there was only one job posted, which was looking for someone to walk their dog. No takers yet, though.
The site has a very interesting model. It’s simple and easy to use and might be able to attract a few craigslist users who like the idea of bidding on a job rather than simply responding to an ad. I just don’t know if it will get the traffic it needs to become a serious competitor.
