jobcogs’ quality of life search engine

Job site JobCogs.com is differentiating themselves from other job boards by emphasizing their “quality of life” search engine that allows users to search for jobs based on flexible hours, child care provided, and domestic partnership insurance, to name a few.

“Employers realize that they can no longer see employees as units of production. As a result many employers are expanding the benefits offered to employees. JobCogs.com creates a way for employers to differentiate their jobs from their competition,” said David Palmer, President.

If you’re curious as to where the name came from, here’s an explanation from the web site: The American Heritage Dictionary defines a cog as “a subordinate member of an organization who performs necessary but usually minor or routine functions”. Our slogan is “we are more than jobCogs”.

The idea is unique, but the site could definitely use a makeover. Also, some of the “quality of life” categories that are showcased are a little bizarre. Employee Empowerment? Nap Rooms? Friendly Boss? I doubt any company posting a job would actually ever check off half of the options available.

Postings and job seeker access are free for the time being. The web site says that they participate in a partnership network, so the postings will be distributed to sites like LinkedIn, Lycos, and myspace.

I think this is a great idea by JobCogs.com. Employers are certainly needing to think about these extra employee ‘benefits’ as today’s workforce want more from their employers - so it’s good to see JobCogs taking the initiative early.

Hopefully it will also help companies realize and capitalize on different benefits and perks that they could be offering to attract and retain the best candidates.

The list seems extensive - and I couldn’t see anything about being ‘green’, or environmentally friendly there! Hopefully they’ll add these soon.

Vanessa, thank you for your post. The economic downturn has forced employers to take a closer look at employee costs. At the same time job seekers want a better work-life balance. Both objectives can be accomplished using jobCogs.com. By adding low to no cost quality-of-life benefits employees can improve recruitment and control salary costs. With quality-of-life benefits job seekers will enjoy higher job satisfaction.

In my opinion, jobCogs.com will always be a work-in-progress. The website continues to be molded by our community of users.

Chris, thank you for your comments. We just added “Environmentally Friendly” as a quality-of-life search option.
