Talkbiznow is a UK-based professional networking site that actually encourages connections and selling between contacts, something that is frowned upon at competitor LinkedIn.
Users can post ads for jobs and connect with other business professionals for free.
CEO and Co-founder Martin Warner said: “As the economy slows down, more and more people and businesses are resorting to the internet to look for jobs or business, as it is completely free. We are beginning to see communities of networks start to develop across the UK, region by region, sector by sector or special interests.”
The site also offers a suite of office tools such as web conferencing and personal calendars.
Former Managing Director of Intelligent Finance and co-founder of Talkbiznow Mark Parker, said “The success of online social communities has shown that connecting online using networking functionality is growing at a significant rate. However, networking for business reasons is not only the next logical step but in fact more necessary than social networking. Almost everyone has a business life.”

I agree - social networking is the next logical business step. But LinkedIn has captured the imagination of the masses so, although TalkBizNow looks really promising. It will have a long way to go …
Then again, the proverbial journey always starts with a single step.
