News

Techies can now go to one place to get all their hiring and industry news.

ReadWriteWeb has launched a new channel called the ReadWriteWeb Jobwire. The new channel will be a place to find reports on hires in the tech and new media industries. The site will track consumer-facing startups as well as cover job changes at established Web companies, Internet marketing firms, infrastructure companies and Web 2.0 and related companies.

There will be 10 to 30 posts added to the site each day, including a featured and analyzed “hire of the day.” These pieces will often be written by special guest editors, including Tom Foremski of Silicon Valley Watcher, who is a former Financial Times reporter, and Sam Whitmore, tech media analyst at Sam Whitmore’s Media Survey.

Marshall Kirkpatrick, vice president of content development and lead blogger, said Jobwire will be of interest to people in companies competing with the companies the site writes about, job seekers, recruiters, marketers and a wide range of other business readers. He said different people will get different things from the site, from inspiration to business leads.

Marshall said ReadWriteWeb has been working on the Jobwire site for many months, long before the current problems with the economy, as nobody else was focusing on covering this news.

“This is something I’ve been interested in for a long time,” he said. “I love hearing about peoples’ jobs. I’d been tracking job changes in our tech and new media as a way to find news about companies I could write about but when I was given the job of finding new kinds of content for ReadWriteWeb to expand into I thought it would be a good idea to launch a blog dedicated to job news alone.”

While most news today is of layoffs, Jobwire hopes to be a source of inspiration, showcasing new hires that serve as a sign of strength for companies. That being said, Jobwire also plans to cover the departure of key individuals from companies, offer occasional round-up coverage of layoffs and offer employment change numbers for the industry.

“While there may be short-term fluctuations, I think the world is changing dramatically and ’social media’ type work will both become a part of many peoples’ jobs and become something that far more people specialize in than we see now,” Marshall added. “I believe that the value proposition of the technology is just too compelling for the world to turn back from embracing it.”
