On Tuesday night some 500 casualties of Wall Street will come together to booze it up with recruiters and performance coaches at what’s being called a Pink Slip Party.
The event, which is being held at a Manhattan bar called the Public House, was created to unite victims of the credit crisis with talent-hungry scouts, both of whom are shelling out cash to attend.
According to the Financial Post, the organizers of the party, which is sponsored by both TheLadders.com and the Wall Street blog Dealbreaker, hope to raise $10,000 for the Ronald McDonald House of New York.
One recruiter said she hopes to fill about 20 open positions. Her company works with clients in financial services including hedge funds and private-equity firms.
“I want to collect as many resumes as possible because I may not have a job today, but I might tomorrow,” said Stacy Lentz.
I have a feeling we will be hearing about many more of these types of unique networking events. Here in Ohio, given the amount of people who have been laid off in droves recently, you could fill the entire Browns stadium with the unemployed.

Pink slip parties are a fun and festive way to connect jobseekers with potential employers - jobseekers interview better when they’re more relaxed (embibing also helps). We’ve done quite a number of them in the Philadelphia & New Jersey markets, and always had great feedback, and usually helped facilitate a hire or two as well. Here’s a press release from our first Pink Slip Party in April 2001:

I also remember the one at Jimmy’s in Morristown because I was working at that one. Those were great events. The recruiters attending were raving about it.
