Twitter was the hot topic at the Florida ERE 2008 conference.
The key note was almost entirely about using Twitter in the recruiting process. However, as people walked out of the key note, their chatter mainly fell into these categories:
Category #1: What is Twitter? None of this makes sense.
Category #2: How do I get started using Twitter?
Category #3: Isn’t Twitter a big waste of time?
The conference never addressed any of these points. So I created the following video and slide deck to answer those issues.
In this video I delineate three ways to help fill your positions using Twitter without posting messages. I also discuss three additional ways seasoned recruiters leverage Twitter to help recruiting through posting techniques.

Great post and great presentation! I work as a recruiter in Boston for Hollister (www.hollisterstaff.com/?=451) and have recently started recommending to all my clients to get on Twitter and use it as another form of networking. Your presentation and video really help clarify how to use Twitter, and what it is. I can’t wait to show it to some of my clients. Thanks so much!

Very nice work. Admittedly, it seems that mass adoption is not quite there yet.
Since the evolution of the “job-board” 15+ years ago, we have become conditioned to the idea of ’show me the resume.’ As such, it is easy to understand why many recruiters see Twitter as nothing more than a waste of time. However, it’s often important to remind folks of the obvious: Twitter helps us connect with people vs. resumes. That said, finding the “right” people can lead us to the right resume.
My advice with Twitter? We should start by developing a long-term strategy which involves building brand and community. Ask, what do we hope to accomplish? Create value within that community by sharing information related to one’s area of expertise, recruiting specialty, etc. Developing a community of “followers” allows us to “tap” into this collective-talent pool when the need is there.
