According to a release about the newly launched site Jobvue.com, all you need is a microphone and a web cam to begin interviewing candidates online live.
There are no fees involved. Users need simply to register to begin the interviewing process. The founder of the site, Lance Reed, said that Jobvue will make money through advertising and has no plans to begin charging employers or job seekers.
“”Conducting an interview over the phone does not provide enough information, and the hiring manager’s time is much too valuable to waste on candidates that are not qualified, or worse, do not show up for interviews,” Reed said. “With jobs being few and far between, job seekers are searching for any advantage they can get over the competition. What better way to get a leg up on them than to interview for job openings around the world while your competition is flying from interview to interview.”
Since the interviewing option is free, the site also suggests that recruiters utilize this tool to perform mock-up interviews with their candidates.
The Jobvue site, currently in beta, has job posting capabilities as well. There is also a mysterious “money” tab in the job seeker portal that says “coming soon.” Your guess is as good as mine to what the tab will consist of.

The first thing that came to mind for me was: Wouldn’t there be a worry of appearing “cheap” to offer a webcam interview, vs. your competition’s willingness to “fly from interview to interview” for real-life face-to-face meetings?
