We can confirm layoffs throughout the onTargetjobs network on Monday. Their portfolio includes sites like JobLoft, Hcareers, BioSpace, RegionalHelpWanted.com and more.
“In the six months that I have been here we have been working hard to consolidate the portfolio companies into a single entity with a range of ‘niche’ product lines,” said CEO Mike Tansey. “At the same time that we were doing this we experienced a significant slowdown in certain markets that we anticipate will continue into next year. As a result we made some difficult decisions to consolidate certain functions across all of onTargetjobs. We are continuing to support and develop all of our individual brands.”
Sources tell us specifics include a total of 60-70 employees laid off in various parts of the network. Additionally, the Hcareers office in Toronto, which apparently served as a customer service hub, is rumored to have been shut down entirely.

Seriously–Joel…
Stop talking about job board layoffs with so much… pride and somewhat happiness. You act like this is something you’ve been looking forward to for a long time. The boards will bounce back but please…stop adding to the hurt. I wasn’t laid off from CB but good people were…and lots are mad that you reported it before it actually happened…once again, with somewhat happiness. Just report the news but don’t be a jerk about it. Anyone agree or am I … sensitive.

CBCB: I can guarantee you that no one here at Cheezhead, including Joel or any of the other writers on staff, is proud or gleeful about any of these layoffs. How could we be? Some of the staff, including myself, have been victims of layoffs in the past. We would never intentionally make light of such a serious topic.
After all, it could be any of us. No one seems to be immune anymore.

Hcareers doesn’t actually have an office in Toronto, so it would be tough to shut that operation down. Our customer service department is located in Vancouver and we have made no changes to that team.

CBCB – that was just ridiculous. Its Joel and Vanessa’s job to write about the layoffs – wouild you tell him to stop writing about companies getting start up capital? or companies being sold?
Layoffs are a reality in this enviornment. As a member of this industry I value the information I get here and at other sites – and with all of the uncertainty wish there was more information out there.
Joel/Vanessa – keep up the good work. Post more often – we need to stay informed! Seriously – there was like a day and half with no news.

No, but HealthECareers does have an operation in Toronto, right Kate? I’m with you Ethan, keep up the good work Vanessa and Joel.

Putting the picture of a guillotine wasn’t making light of the situation. You have NO IDEA the panic you caused at CareerBuilder’s offices. You should be ashamed that you feel you’re simply “reporting the news” and not adding a twist on it. They aren’t just “writing” about layoffs Ethan…it’s ‘how they are writing’ that is the problem.

@cbcb, I thought it’s good to let all know who is layoffs. It’s hard for everyone, not only you guys. With somewhat happiness doesn’t mean we can’t tell the bad news.

CBCB Have you been around long enough to remember the dotcomdeadpool – better known as f*&cked company dot com? It got so bad people found out they were being laid off from the site in 2000ish. The point I am making is we should all be aware of our surroundings and what is happening in our industry. Picking on the image they chose to use isn’t as relevant as the fact that we are facing tough times – and employees everywhere need to be aware of whats happening. If the employer is being open with its employees then the employees won’t be frightened by images on Cheezhead.

Seriously, does Cheezhead have so much clout that they alone could send a PANIC throughout CB? I’m pretty sure Joel got that tip from a person working at CB. Joel confirmed it before posting.
Nothing against you, Joel and Vanessa, but one blog post stating layoff rumors probably didn’t rock a company the size of CB. Then again, maybe I under estimate Cheezhead…..

People always hate to talk about when they are laid off. But as it has become every day’s news headline since Yahoo started it with cutting 1500 of its task force last year, now a need of platform has been in demand where people can express their selves in words how they are feeling about their company, whey the got laid off was that justified or not.
And every thing they want to tell anonymously. And http://www.layoffgossip.com is providing you that platform.
