I recently came across another HR community (yes, I know there are literally gazillions of these, but couldn’t we use just one more?) that was created by the folks at the Monster-owned Affinity Labs.
HRGuru was launched in late March 2008, just three months after Monster acquired Affinity Labs, a company that builds online communities to improve the lives, careers, and education of their members. Because of the paternal link to the grand daddy of all job boards, HRGuru has the largest job search online, Associate Editor Katie Winsor said, which gives them an advantage over other HR-focused communities.
“Our site offers professional career advice in the context of a fun, engaging atmosphere,” Winsor said. “Whether considering a career in HR for the first time, or you’re a veteran employee, our aim is to serve our users. There’s no other place that brings together the tools, information, and community for HR professionals to take action on their career aspirations.”
HRGuru offers a variety of news sources and career trend blogs where users can read up on the latest news affecting HR professionals and read blogs covering niche topics as well as general trends.
The site also offers videos, games, quizzes, and the ability to create polls or comment on existing poll results. The discussion forums had some interesting debates, including one about whether or not employers should pay overtime for use of Blackberrys and a post about quotes that HR reps find inspirational.
Members of the site can also post and search jobs for free, review and recommend books, get free business cards, and research employment law.
