Dennis Carey, a recruiter specializing in CEOs and corporate directors, has launched a new site called CEOSuccession.com to aid in succession planning for company leaders.
“In working with leading companies, we have developed a window on how boards can get it right when choosing a new chief executive,” Carey said. “This is the critical fiduciary responsibility of the board, ensuring the steady flow of effective leadership in corporate America.”
Guiding principles listed on the site include:
* be undertaken in an open and objective manner and with the input of global intelligence.
* leave all contenders, successful or unsuccessful, with the feeling that they had a shot at the position
* be perceived by all in the company as fair and that all major constituencies had a voice in the process.
“Whether by sudden tragedy, poor performance, merger, takeover or simple retirement, every CEO will leave his or her position,” Carey said. “The corporate boards that take on a systematic, predictable and transparent process in choosing the next leaders of the organization build stronger cultures, clarify the company’s strategy and deliver value to all stakeholders, including employees.”
The site also lists ten key practices to follow when planning who your next CEO will become.
