According to their blog, Oodle, a site that pulls and organizes millions of classifieds from the Web, has announced that they closed $5.6 million in funding from their existing investors.
Co-founder and CEO Craig Donato revealed that Greylock Partners, Redpoint Ventures and JAFCO Ventures contributed to the funding.
Donato shared this with his readers:
Oodle had a great year in 2008. We brought some great partners into our network, including Walmart and MySpace, and our traffic more than tripled. Indeed, last month we hit a big milestone when we received more than 10M visits.
I’m really excited about where we’re going this year. More and more people are turning to classifieds in this tough economic environment to find great deals or raise extra cash.
Our mission, as always, is to find innovative ways to improve the experience of using online classifieds. And one of the best opportunities to do that is to make the experience more social. With our partnerships with MySpace and Facebook we’re now poised to usher in a new generation of classifieds!

From the looks of their record numbers and recent funding, it appears that people (especially job seekers) are really turning towards on-line classifieds. Aggregated classifieds (like Kayak for flights and Indeed for jobs) are only going to continue to rise in their popularity.
Has anyone seen any particular success in going down the classified route for finding new employees? I know a few friends who have had success via Craigslist. For the price, is there any other way to reach candidates for so little (sometimes for free!)?

I have been using http://www.thesocexchange.com a while now to sell things online with great results, and for the quality and price ($1 a month) you can’t beat it.
I noticed this week that they have moved into the online job market. What they are offering is amazing for employers and recruiters (unlimited job postings for $10 per year). The model they use and the way they connect employers and job seekers is extremely effective.
Good luck to them!

There are so many classified sites online now, which I agree is where the trend is going. I wonder when they will begin to consolidate though, because there are so many now they risk too much competition and diluting each other. I wouldn’t be surprised to see google make a big move in this market.
