Indeed.com has released a unique view of job postings and job seeker trends in 12 major industries called Industry Trends.

The new trends are a picture of job numbers and job seeker traffic, including top job titles, keyword searches and cities, and how they have evolved over the past year. The current trends reflect that the number of job postings in the U.S. has declined in all industries, but the least severe declines occurred in the healthcare and education sectors.

The worst hit industries were real estate (down 58%), accounting (down 53%), financial services (down 48%) and hospitality (down 48%).

Industry Job Postings Annual Change

Accounting and Consulting 119,171 -53%
Construction 57,164 -47%
Education 62,933 -9%
Financial Services and Banking 144,569 -48%
Healthcare and Medical 581,625 -8%
Hospitality 57,608 -48%

“Both job seekers and employers stand to benefit from our Industry Trends”, said Jason Whitman, VP of Client Services at Indeed. “If you’re working in a rapidly declining industry, it will help you identify industries in better shape to which you can try to transition. If you’re a recruiter, you can monitor job seeker traffic and see which jobs are getting the most traffic in your industry.”

Facts are strong and good indicators that things are not looking up however there are roles out there. People need to be creative in finding, locating and then applying for those positions. In addition, these facts do not call for the other piece of the pie pushing the numbers down. Companies are not advertising as much since they do not need to. Jobs are being filled by referrals and extended networks without having to consistently place down hundreds and thousands of dollars for marketing efforts.
