LayoffSupportNetwork.com is a newly-created community for, as the name implies, layoff victims looking for a means to survive.
Founder Craig Brown said that when he first dreamed up the site, he was gainfully employed. But now he too has joined the ranks of the jobless.
“Now I’m like that guy who does the ad for Hair Club for Men,” the software engineer said. “I’m not only president of The Layoff Support Network, I’m also a customer.”
Brown said the most unique feature of the site is its content.
“It will have advice on job hunting, resume writing, things like that. But the main thrust is surviving without a job. We cover the obvious (money), but also psychological and health issues. It’s like online group therapy.
We have been told that it makes people feel better.”
Brown said that the sites’ founders are in an advantageous position to give advice.
“The people who built the site are all in their 40’s (I’m 50) and have been through more than one layoff. Sadly, we are layoff survival experts. There are articles and postings on topics that you will not see anywhere else.”
You won’t find any advertising or fees on the site. It’s totally free. Brown said the point isn’t to make money, but to help the unfortunate. Donations won’t be turned away though, he added.
