If you’re one of the millions of people who are unemployed, you should know you’re not alone – and that the Internet has a vast array of resources to help you cope.
The following is a list of Web sites compiled by CNN that offer information, recession news, survival tips, comic relief or simply a sense of community. Some of the sites have been around for some time, while others have cropped up during the last couple months or days.
- The Daily Bail – news on bailouts
- Timely Demise – covers the retail industry
- The Media is Dying – a Twitter page that honors fallen media
- The 405 Club – the “fastest growing club in New York,” refers to the $405 per week maximum unemployment benefit in New York
- Laid-Off Dad – a New York City man’s trials and tribulations
- ResumeShirts.com – allows customers to print resumes and cover letters on customized shirts
- Pink Slips are the New Black – “the blog for unemployed people by unemployed people”
- Recessionwire – a “pop-up site” that is “ready and willing to die” provides inspiration and offers tips
- Recession Blocker – a search tool that allows users to access a news site without any bad news
- Odd Job Nation – a resource for opportunists
- Feeling Up in Down Times – offers advice and psychology online to those who can’t afford it in the real world
If nothing else, these sites should help you gain insight into the scope of the economic recession and give you a window into how others are dealing.
