By the end of the week, Canada’s largest job board will be without its longtime president.
Patrick Sullivan, who has served as president of Workopolis since 2003, has announced his plans to step down from that post. The decision was reached by a mutual agreement on behalf of Sullivan and the company’s board of directors.
“Some time ago I began to consider the possibility of leaving Workopolis, and I opened discussions with the board on the subject,” Sullivan said. “Heading Workopolis these last six years has been a privilege. It made it possible for me to experience the incredible expansion of on-line career services.
“I’m proud of the values and the quality of the services that the firm has developed and which are responsible for its success,” he continued. “Throughout this adventure I’ve benefited from the support of talented colleagues who will, I have no doubt, rise to the challenges presented by transformations in the employment sector.”
It is expected that a new president will be named shortly. In the mean time, Joe Wilke, vice president of finance and operations, will serve as interim president.
Before coming to Workopolis, Wilke worked in financial positions with Loblaw Companies Limited, from internal auditor to senior vice president of financial reporting and control, and previously worked for Ernst & Young and Grant Thornton. Wilke is a chartered accountant and has an honors bachelor’s degree from the University of Waterloo.
Workopolis is Canada’s largest online job board and serves more than 3.3 million unique visitors each month. The site also boasts the most-posted resumes and twice as many job postings as its competitors. Headquartered in Toronto, Workopolis is a partnership of Toronto Star Newspapers Ltd. and Gesca Ltd.
