As recruiters invest in moving from transactional to strategic, we found that a technique used by executives in business decision-making translates very well to recruiters to securing a higher ratio of top performers into interviews. The technique is precision questioning, and it has a history of being used by some executive recruiters who were formerly executives themselves.
Precision questioning works especially well in this economy. As hiring levels reduce, the strategic shift is towards recruiting higher performing candidates.
Executives and directors traditionally use precision questioning to quickly identify problem areas and evaluate leadership performance in short review meetings where the executive is less familiar with the details than the team that they are reviewing. This scenario is similar to phone screens where you have to decide if a potential candidate is a fit for an open position, even if you don’t know the subject matter yourself.
This video provides a short walk-through of a) how the Precision Questioning technique works, b) how to apply it to recruiting, c) and how Talent Acquisition senior leaders can allow their organization to apply this at scale with a low cost.
It also includes a worksheet (slide 14) on how to construct these questions with a focus on any specific industries and job discipline.
