The Federal Contractor Network – a new social networking site – makes it easier for job seekers to make connections and find government positions.
The site, which launched in August 2008 by owner Alex George, is based out of Washington, D.C. The network currently has 7,000 members and is hoping its users will take advantage of the fact that the government is one of the few industries currently hiring.
The site offers a free source of business intelligence and subject matter expertise to federal contractors, service providers, manufacturers and government employees working in the United States and overseas.
“Ninety-nine percent of The Federal Contractor Network members are in the U.S. while the remaining 1 percent are contractors and military personnel currently working for the U.S. Government overseas – Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, etc.” George said. “In my mind, the greatest success has been the diversity TFCN has established in terms of its members’ skill sets and areas of expertise.”
The Federal Contractor Network is based on a Ning platform and offers pages for members, groups, a blog, a forum, events, rankings, resources, videos, photos and jobs. Groups themselves range from Government Contracts and Defense Industry news to Talent Acquisition and The Job Spot. There also are groups on Homeland Security, legislation, veteran-owned businesses, a group for mentors and a networking group that meets face-to-face.
The Federal Contracting Network also can be found on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
