laurieandjoelHello from sunny and fabulous San Diego, where I’m spending three days with the best and brightest sourcing and recruiting professionals at ERE Expo. The networking portion of the conference is well underway, and attendees are smiling, brandishing business cards, and shaking hands with wild abandon.

I don’t have anything to talk about other than my cat, so I’m doing a tremendous amount of listening. What are people talking about? They are telling me about financial constraints, business models, and bratty children aged 8-18 who’ve been left behind with spouses.

Those poor spouses.

If anything, ERE Expo is less of a wonky conference and more of a ‘mental vacation’ for the attendees. There were thoughtful presentations from Michael McNeal and Scott Pitasky, this morning, but many people are excited about the warm weather and the blue sky. There are opportunities to learn about enhanced sourcing methodologies and staffing strategies in India; however, there are opportunities to eat ice cream and talk about NCAA brackets while walking around the exhibit hall.

I am happy to be part of ERE Expo, and I hope you’re having a good time and forgetting the mediocrity of the daily grind. Take this opportunity to kick back with like-minded colleagues and have a drink or two. Or seven. Well, maybe not seven. I saw a guy slumped up against an elevator wall, last night. You don’t want to be that guy. Trust me.
