I’ve been following the Consumerist’s Worst Company in America poll for a few weeks now, and I’ve noticed some unlikely contenders getting a lot of votes.
Initially some of the candidates (picked by the Consumerist audience) were also a surprise. I mean, Target? How could my beloved Target, land of the chirpy red-shirted Aunt Beas, my family’s mini-vacation destination during the intolerable Cleveland winters – how could the company that made the Slinky cool again be considered an Enemy of the Working Class?
But Target is eliciting its fair share of grunts and gripes from the Consumerist audience, so much in fact that it’s pitted against AIG, the most despised company in America.
Sprint can be found in the rankings (no surprise there), along with American Express, Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Ticketmaster, and Sears. Sears? Seriously?
Check out the match-up today against Ticketmaster and United Healthcare. Something tells me that Ticketmaster could wrap up this entire contest and declare itself the winner by a large margin (and then charge a fee to mail you the results).
My personal votes would be for Bally’s Fitness, Mattel, True North for that despicable ad campaign they’re running, and Walgreens for mowing down landmarks in nearly every city I’ve called home.
