A new UK conference dedicated to social media recruiting is in the works.

Mike Taylor, managing director of Web-Based-Recruitment.com, has announced that the Social Media In Recruitment Conference will take place July 16 at the British Library Conference Centre in London. The conference is meant to help recruiters understand what social media is and how it can benefit them.

“There is currently a lot of interest in social media and how it can be used effectively in recruitment,” Taylor said. “However, there is also a lot of confusion about how to get started and therefore the conference will focus on helping recruiters understand exactly what social media is and how it can be used effectively.

“Even if a recruiter has no prior knowledge of social media there will be plenty of information and examples of how social media is currently being used in recruitment,” Taylor continued. “This will give recruiters the confidence to consider where social media could be used in their own organizations.”

The conference will cover such subject areas as:

  • An overview of social media, including social networking sites, blogs and podcasts
  • How social networking sites such as Facebook can be used to get messages to your target audience
  • How to use LinkedIn to promote your vacancies and source new candidates
  • How to use Twitter, TwitterJobSearch.com and the job search engines for recruitment
  • The legal issues surrounding the use of social media Web sites
  • Using online video to promote your company and your job vacancies
  • How to put together a social media strategy for your company
  • The future – taking social media to the next level

Speakers at the conference will include Taylor; Josh Smith, head of inside sales at Facebook UK; Mark Williams, managing director at ETN Training; Bill Fischer, co-founder and director at Work Digital Limited; Paul Harrison, managing partner at Carve Consulting and Matt Alder, head of Digital Barkers. Representatives from TBC, Google and YouTube also will speak at the conference.

“We are delighted to have a great range of speakers who are involved with social media in recruitment on a daily basis which means that delegates will be able to learn from recognized industry experts”, Taylor added.

The conference costs £325 if you register by May 10, £375 if you register by June 5 and £425 if you register after June 5.
