According to TechCrunch, multiple sources are saying that people search engine Spock is about to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
And that high bidder is likely to be Intelius, another people search engine that charges users to access data. TechCrunch head Michael Arrington writes, “If these rumors are accurate, God help Spock. Not only is Intelius embroiled in all kinds of legal and ethical disputes, but they also have a shaky history when it comes to acquisitions. . . Selling to Intelius is just one step less painful than shutting down the company outright, so things must be worse at Spock than we’ve heard.”
Spock co-founder Jay Bhatti is a familiar name in the recruiting industry. Simon Meth was a big fan when Spock launched, and Bhatti has even written for Cheezhead in the past.
Apparently Spock has also started charging people to access its data since reports allege the startup burned through $7 million + in funding after their 2007 launch.
