A newspaper alliance consisting of the founders of The Employment Times and Sun Media Group ( the parent company of The Lewiston Sun Journal and 13 other leading local weekly newspapers) has formed to create MyJobWave.com, a new job portal for the Maine-New Hampshire area.

According to their web site, the site was founded to give job seekers “the best of both worlds – print and online convergence – and to bring together quality candidates with quality organizations.”

The founders say the site is different from typical job boards because they engage in aggressive, local marketing, public relations and community outreach programs primarily through local media, including broadcast and cable television; radio; and regional and local employment events.

For employers, posting costs about $300 for 30 days. Job seekers can view jobs and upload resumes for free.

Sounds like the second coming of Jobing, really. And wasn’t Careerbuilder the product of newspapers banding together to take want ads online in response to pressure from Monster and Craigslist?

It’s tough to get excited about yet another ‘job portal’ with yet more claims like ‘the best of more of the same’.

Strike #1 – not one thought given to SEO. Check out their pages in Google:

Robert, very good point. I just hope they prove to have a better people strategy than Jobing does. This model can work as long as your people who are making the dials are treated with respect like it used to be at Jobing. Also, I hope their expation strategy is a much more successful one if they choose to enter into different markets.

Sounds a lot like Jobing for sure. I am sure they will take there time and get things right before adding on additional markets and I am sure they are smart enough to not treat all markets as if they were the same (PHOENIX). “Well, we do it that way in Phoenix so it should work that way in LA!!!” Really?

Hey lets open an office in LA right on Wilshire Blvd.(one of the highest commercial & residential rental districts in Cali) and hire sale reps and start them at 24,600 a year. Wait – why do we seem to only be attracting tweakers, crackheads, and prostitutes from Inglewood?
Oh I don’t know maybe because anyone who can afford to live within 10 miles of the LA office and who can sell probably is laughing at 24,600 a year.

MyJobWave maybe able to duplicate Jobings business model but they won’t be able to replicate the pompous and arrogant ASS that runs it.
