People who have less experience might have an easier time finding a job, if they’re looking for work in one of the top three industries listed in a new report from Beyond.com.

The career community site recently released its Q1 2009 Career Trends Analysis and Industry Outlook Report, which is meant to provide an in-depth look at the latest job market trends.

In a successful economy, there is usually a higher demand for management-level candidates. However, in a lower economy, such as the one we’re facing now, many employers tend to recruit less experienced professionals who will be highly productive and more cost-effective.

Although some industries, such as customer service and retail, almost always recruit lower-level professionals, Beyond.com’s latest report shows that other industries may be doing the same.

The report found that the top three industries during Q1 saw an increase in demand for candidates with less than five years of experience. That means many experienced professionals who are out of work are competing with a younger – and often less expensive – workforce.

The healthcare and medical industry saw a 15.2 percent increase in the number of people searching for jobs. While the majority of job seekers had one to three years of experience, most available jobs required less than one year of experience.

The information technology industry saw a 54.5 percent increase in the number of people looking for work. Most job seekers had five to 10 years of experience, but candidates with only three to five years of experience were in the highest demand.

The sales and sales management industry saw a 23.8 percent increase in the number of people looking for a job. The majority of those job seekers had more than 21 years of experience, but candidates with less than one year of experience were the most sought after and represented 65.6 percent of all sales jobs posted.

“In times of economic uncertainty, employers are extremely mindful of expenses, especially as it relates to their recruitment program, to ensure that their business is able to continue thriving,” Beyond.com CEO Rich Milgram, said.

“As a result, many companies are focused on hiring front-line workers who can make the most impact on their business with the least amount of financial risk, further widening the employment gap that exists between the type of candidates in-demand compared to the type of candidates currently searching for a job,” Milgram added.
