I just read about a really cool new search engine on VentureBeat that uses a combination of semantic search, crowdsourcing, and random site discovery features.
Ziipa acts a lot like StumbleUpon in that it pulls up sites you’ve probably never heard of before and encourages you to rank each site you visit.
The main dashboard of Ziipa features 10 sneak-peaks of websites, the search box, and a tag cloud, so you can pick how you want to begin traversing the site. When searching, the point is not to find the most precise or popular result based on your queries; rather, the site allows you to troll the roads less traveled on the Internet to find great sites you may not have found otherwise on the first two or three pages of a Google search.
For instance, when I typed in ‘jobs’ in the search box, Ziipa pulled up several sites that I’ve never heard of and some that I know are startups and would never have shown up in Google under the same query. Interestingly enough, three of the sites featured are for job searching on Twitter.
Searching under the term ‘recruiting’ also brought up some hidden treasures. Play around with it and see what you can find. To submit sites to the system, fill out a short form with your name, email, the name and URL of the website and a short description. The site will notify you later if it is successfully added.
