Doug Anmuth, an analyst for Barclay, gave PaidContent.org a sneak peak of Yahoo’s new homepage, which is set to debut before the end of the year.
Anmuth provided P.C. with screenshots of the new version:
Now check out a current screenshot of the Yahoo homepage:
Do you notice what’s missing on the newer version? Hotjobs, Yahoo’s job portal. Quite possibly it may be found under the ‘Yahoo sites’ tab, but it seems more likely that a ‘jobs’ link would be featured on the main page. If you notice, everything else is accounted for: finance, personals, Ebay, social media sites, movies, mail – but with so many people looking for a job right now, one would think that Yahoo would align their job site front and center for maximum exposure.
The omission of the Hotjobs link, currently centered on the homepage, could lead to more speculation about an impending sale. In mid-April, the New York Times reported that the rumors are true: Yahoo is shopping around Hotjobs.
Yahoo’s new CEO Carol Bartz has been eliminating positions and cutting Yahoo products that aren’t core to their business. Is this another sign that Hotjobs may be on the list of casualties, perhaps sooner than we thought?
UPDATE: Brian Nelson of Hotjobs emailed this in response to the post:
We are currently testing new versions of the Yahoo! homepage. Designs being tested are changing frequently based on user input, but are focused on providing a simplified Web experience that allows for greater personalization. In the latest test version of the homepage we recently shared publicly (http://ycorpblog.com/2009/05/26/making-new-yahoo-homepages-your-own/), the “My Favorites” area on the left side of the page includes an applications “dashboard” with the ability to preview, interact with or navigate to your favorite sites – whether they’re on Yahoo! or elsewhere on the Web.
It’s all fully customizable based on user preference. All Yahoo! sites, including HotJobs, can be accessed from the “View Yahoo! Sites” button.
