Some Cheezhead readers (including a well-respected industry executive) emailed in this morning saying that several Jobfox employees on Facebook and LinkedIn noted on their profiles that as of yesterday, they are unemployed.
We asked Jobfox for a statement regarding the layoffs, if they did indeed take place, and we got this response from Steven Toole, VP of Employer Marketing:
OMG, you can’t be serious about chasing a news story about a normal performance related termination? Are you kidding me?
I appreciate the inquiry but by now you should realize that you are a target for people to try to drum up a bad news story out of nothing.
Thanks again,
Steven
PS, we’re hiring, so if you know any good sales people, internet marketing or software engineers that aren’t already on Jobfox, please send them my way.
So apparently there was only one layoff, and it was performance-related. Here’s a link to the job descriptions Steven referenced in his email.

I definitely want to work for a guy who starts his replies to press inquiries with “OMG.”

Like, I only like laid off like one person so like relax like OMG like……
June 5th, 2009 at 7:52 am
OMG, LOL this is just crazy.
If they cut one person that is 10% of their staff and probably 20% of their revenue.
So several reps said they got laid off and Toole siad they got fired for not performing – what do you have to do to under perform at JF – just not show up.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:48 am
Yes we just sent you a sob story to put on the blog a few months ago after we cut 90% of the company, but tell everyone “we’re hiring”. OK. That statement sounds more like “go away” and leave me alone to die in peace.

OK, so I enrolled on JF. Next morning went to log-in and couldn’t get in. Paid the fee, loaded the resume, filled out all their questions, etc. The troubleshooting section was absolutely no help at all. Tried the link for members to email them and it doesn’t work, so I used the employers link (which was the only one working). I phoned the company and the receptionist had no idea what she was doing, let alone how to handle customers and transfers. She also admitted that the company was very small and only one person knew how to help with the problems for log-in. OK, does this company understand cross-training? Do they also understand that having one person with the knowledge to do something cripples the company, and the employees hold the power – not the executives! Besides, that conversation led me to believe the company wasn’t reliable. I left my message but haven’t heard back from SAM (the all-knowing guy). I’m wondering how I get my refund? Maybe you should put your own job openings on your site so you can get qualified, professional employees working for you.
I design sites so your problem is a simply one to fix if your IT department has the right education and/or training.

Interesting response from JobFox. From what I hear, they are far from hiring. The street says they let go or lost four last week and will not be back filling those spots. Has the fox been chased out the hen house. Appears so.

OMG, Steve! You are, like, SO lying through your butt! There were several laid off and the reason they called it “performance based” is because when you fire someone you don’t have to pay them severence or long term unemployment. The jobs that are supposedly available on your jobsite have been there for MONTHS. In fact, when I asked an employee at Jobfox about one of the jobs they even told me they were up there to make it look like there were openings but NO hiring was being done. Period. If a company is having to lay-off sales people, it means there are no sales. No sales is no business.
So I guess this means that there are that many gullible job seekers out there that will pay for Jobfox’s crappy service and promises of a better job seeking experience? yeah, right. I know of several people who have asked for a refund. The service truly is crappy.
BTW, not performing at Jobfox means that one isn’t waayyy up Rob/Rich/Peggy’s butt and telling them everyday how wonderful they are. That’s the only key to succes at Jobfox.
OMG, Steve! Stop lying!
June 6th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
tyhe only people Jobfox may be hiring are bankruptcy lawyers
June 7th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Steve lives up to his last name.
BTW, the job opening on his career site that he mentions has been open for one year.
Regards,
The fox that rocks the box.

Sounds like jobfox & jobing.com should get together and start a support group.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Well, well, well! I am so glad that people are still writing about Jobfox! They are hanging by one finger on the cliff of liquidation and it is slipping real fast! A word from the wise – SUCK ALL YOU CAN NOW – ROB’S TEAT IS DRYING UP FAST!! Rumor has it that there is a ‘Dead Pool’ as to how long Jobfox has, so as of today – 6-10-09 I am putting in for July 15th!
Best wishes to all who join the Pool!
June 11th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Deadpool: I’m voting for August 30th when they announce that they will be retooling their site. Read: Closing up shop!
June 12th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
I have a hunch… August 3rd is the date! Q: why did they chop out all the funny things written in Happy’s entry? It was hilarious! Keep up the great work Happy!
June 12th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
OMG Steve – Like I just heard like your number one like salesperson has just quit..!
OMG like what you guys have like 2 sales reps now?
Dead pool: Like I say End of July
June 12th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
LOL, of course it was performance related. Jeffrey Gitomer wouldnt be able to sell this steaming pile of dog poo.
It is a shame though. Classic case of what looks good on paper does not always shake out in reality. They overcomplicated the matching technology, tried to teach the sales people how to do a “show and dance”, then changed the routines weeks later. Zero consistency in the product. No marketing to support it (yeah, they pissed away plenty of cash on banner ads. Who clicks on banner ads, anyway? Steven should go back to marketing school to be honest, sorry). No pricing structure that met the needs of our prospects. In short, one giant CLUCSTERF**K. A great learning experience though.

They DID NOT fire, read again, DID NOT fire people for not selling!!!!!
I am in the know with several people there and one rep who was sent packing for not selling sold 10% pf their total sales last month and another sold 20% of the total number.
The best part of this story is that they offered all the reps additional options prior to letting them go a week later.
I am not sure what is worse, getting laid off or being offered JF options the week before to get people to stay.
Instead of firing people who can sell their horible product (which was good at one time) they should be reducing non essential head count…..not every Toole is a good Toole. If he is head of sales marketing and they are not selling than….. well LOL, OMG and see you later!

STOP THE MADNESS!!
How much money did ‘Team Loser’ actually pi** away here!
Like $100,000,000 or some crazy # like that?
Can you imagine the investors (who got beaten like a dog who got caught pooping on the living room rug!) must feel now that the sun is setting on their ‘can’t miss’ opportunity?
Think what you could do with $100,000,000…
How does Rb/Peg/Rich/Tool-box sleep at night?
My bet for the dead pool is July 17th!!
June 17th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
The fact is – anyone selling 10%, 20% or even 80% of nut’in is still nun’in.
OMG Jobfox you are toast with bake beans on top… Literally
June 18th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
i keep getting these crap jobs sent to my inbox, totally off the wall, Stevie Wonder could find me better matches scouring the web – I’ve looked throughout the jf system and they have NO way to Cancel and get out of this endless sh!t loop
anyone know how to delete their account on this site? already emailed them – no response
June 19th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
By the sound of the posts above – it appears like there’s nobody left to receive your request anyway. Why don’t you just forward Jobfox to the Junk Box – everyone else does…
June 19th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
@ how do i cancel?
sadly I don’t think there is a way to cancel. JF needs to keep the number of job seekers in their database in an attempt to show vendors how many they have. there is no such thing as canceling the email or membership. most of my job “matches” (and there are many) go directly to my spam folder. i suggest that if you have bought into their “advantage membership” you should call your credit card company directly to have them cancel the charges. that was the only way i could get my membership discontinued. btw i never got any legitimate matches and in the last few weeks have gotten emails saying that a job i showed interested in is no longer available.
july 31 is my bet for the deadpool.
June 22nd, 2009 at 3:12 pm
not the brightest bulb, but you don’t really think I would have sent them my credit card info do you?
June 25th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
I love it! I hope that Rob/Peg/Rich/Tool-Box read these entries – can you imagine how bad Pegs face must look when all pruned up? EWWW!! The Fox is soooo close to extinction….
July 16th, 2009 at 11:46 am
HEY! I just heard that Marge the wonder midget just resigned from the Fox! She probably could not stand watching the company tank anymore. From being the #1 salesperson in the company to the unemployment line – pretty rough. But in all fairness she had her little cabbage fingers into the Jobfox spin all the time, spinning lies to anyone who would listen… I might just win the dead pool!!
September 17th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
did anyone notice the fox is hiring again in major markets?? hmmm
September 24th, 2009 at 1:53 am
A job was posted on Simply Hired and Indeed which pointed to a job in Woodland Hills at a company through JobFox. I went to the company website and the job was not listed for the location but another location. When I tried to apply for the job on JobFox, it would not let me apply for the job.
Is this site JobFox a scam?
