PayScale, Inc., a global real-time salary dataset, has just announced a big partnership with Bing, Microsoft’s new search engine. All Bing users seeking answers to-salary related queries will receive results from PayScale.com’s 17.5 million+ dataset.
PayScale is providing answers to salary queries on Bing for the 4000 most popular job titles (e.g. architect, concierge, lawyer). Searches will return national salary figures, with metro-specific information also available.
“Extending PayScale’s real-time salary data capabilities to Bing users is another proof point that workers and job seekers are hungry for this kind of information and that the Web has become a go-to source for decision-making intelligence” said Mike Metzger, CEO of PayScale.
After queries are plugged into Bing’s search box, PayScale results will show a salary range chart, bonus information and other data for each of the salary-related search results. They also provide links to drill into salary by location and to complete a free salary survey for more detailed compensation information.
PayScale founder Joe Giordano said the partnership came about after PayScale began working with Live Search earlier this year to provide salary information for the most popular salary searches. The collaboration carried over into the rollout of Bing.
He also noted that the partnership came about naturally because PayScale and Bing share a common goal: to help people make the best decisions.
“For PayScale,” Giordano said, “Those decisions revolve around salary and career: should I ask for a raise? Should I look for a new job? Should I move to a different city where the cost of living will improve my quality of life? Do I need to go back to school to advance in my profession or improve my salary?
“For Bing, it extends into areas like travel, entertainment, shopping, etc. But the end goal is the same: to give people the information they need to make informed choices.”
PayScale’s dataset updates daily due to the large amount of people (thousands, according to Giordano) that take PayScale’s salary survey each day. Members can utilize the data to anonymously compare their salary to other real people with similar individual and job characteristics (e.g. location, company type and size, job title, experience, education, and skills).
When asked how the Bing partnership will affect expansion of the dataset, Giordano said that every Bing user that chooses to take the salary survey will enhance their current service.
“With every partnership, we learn new and interesting ways of expanding the types of information we can provide for users on the web,” Giordano said. “Our goal is to continue to make PayScale the most relevant source and best choice for compensation and career-related information.”
