David Hernandez, the principal backer of the now-defunct ChicagoSportsWebio.com and CEO of NextStep Medical Staffing, is still on the run and could be anywhere, according to an employee who worked for him at Webio.
Chet Coppock told MyFoxChicago.com, “”He may be in Tijuana, he might be in Schaumburg. Who knows. But the thing is he’s probably conning somebody right now.”
Hernandez was charged with mail fraud Wednesday in a federal criminal complaint alleging he ran a Ponzi scheme that lined his pockets with an estimated $11 million. The criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago accused Hernandez of scheming to defraud investors through various businesses that he operated, including NextStep Financial Services, NextStep Medical Staffing and related companies.
A warrant for Hernandez’s arrest was issued, and the FBI has launched a manhunt for him. He went missing Monday after he was last seen at the ChicagoSportsWebio offices in Morton Grove.
