Butterfinger has come up with an unusual – but promising – way to hire interns and take advantage of social media to help spread the word about its product.
The company is looking to find what it calls “FUNterns,” or four digitally-skilled, savvy marketing summer interns who wouldn’t mind getting paid to help spread the word about Butterfinger.
“In this economy, it’s time to sweeten the job pool with a social media-centric FUNternship that only Butterfinger could create,” Tricia Bowles, FUNternship recruiter and spokesperson for Nestlé Confections & Snacks, said. “The brand’s success with its Butterfinger Comedy Network on Yahoo! demonstrates the power of humorous online content in reaching our biggest fans. A marketing FUNternship that’s also virtual and viral is a natural way to engage and excite Butterfinger enthusiasts.”
The company says that ideal FUNterns will not only love Butterfinger, but will feel as equally at home on Facebook as they do out on the town, Tweet as much as they talk and blur the line between their offline and online life. FUNterns can expect to work a flexible 15 hours per week for about six weeks. They also will receive a year’s supply of Butterfingers.
Anyone interested in applying must be at least 18-years old and a legal U.S. citizen living in the Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles or New York City metropolitan area. An in-person screening of the first 500 applicants is set for this Thursday at the Nestlé USA headquarters in Glendale, Calif. You can apply through Yahoo! Hot Jobs or in person and more information can be found at Butterfinger’s Facebook site. The company says that wearing Butterfinger orange will get you bonus points.
All candidates will be asked to submit a traditional resume, technical and social media capabilities, social media addresses and a 100-word cover letter describing why you’re the ultimate Butterfinger fan and would make the perfect FUNtern.
