AIRS, a provider of recruitment training, announced at SHRM that they’ve launched a new certification aimed at ensuring recruiters are equipped with a through understanding of sourcing via social media.

The AIRS Certified Social Sourcing Certification (CSSR), which AIRS said is this industry’s first designation on social media, can be obtained following the completion of AIRS Social Sourcing class and certification exam.

AIRS said that recruiters will learn to use advanced tactics and techniques to find passive candidates, demonstrate the key players in social recruiting, better understand how they strategically benefit recruitment strategy and learn how to leverage social media to build an employment brand that creates a viral funnel of talent.

Class attendees are also eligible to earn course credits towards their PHR®/SPHR®/GPHR® certifications.

“As best-practices in recruitment continue to evolve, social media, networking and micro blogging are driving the future, said Chris Forman, President of AIRS, a company of The RightThing. “AIRS new Certified Social Sourcing Certification is a smart and economical investment to establish recruiters as experts and begin fully utilizing the low-cost, robust sourcing options social recruiting offers.”

I’m curious to learn what others think of this? Does having a CSSR really hold any weight? I’m not sure it does. It’s classroom training with an exam…I am a huge proponent of leveraging technology but to “certify” someone in social media recruiting seems a little silly. I’ve met a great deal of certified recruiters from various programs and they couldn’t hold a conversation with me. They learn the buzz words but couldn’t put together a entry level search with the strings in front of the. Just my thoughts….

    This gives me an idea.

I’m going to certify people too. I will certify you as someone who knows how to become a millionaire.

To get certified and to find out how to become a millionaire, send me $1.00 and I’ll certify you and also “teach” you the secret.
