One’s associated with an Internet behemoth (or at least used to be a behemoth) and the other is basically some dude in his basement, but thanks to the iPhone’s even playing field, both now have an iPhone application.
Kijiji, an eBay company launched their application on June 22. Similar to their Web site, it features classified listings of all kinds, not just jobs. Functionality is pretty straight forward and includes photos, the ability to reply to listings and a Watch List that enables users to bookmark their favorites.
On the strictly jobs side, mJob (a Cheezhead company) enables users to search through listings by keyword and location. Unlike some apps that use something like Indeed’s API, we don’t send you to a mobile-unfriendly site, so the whole experience is hopefully consistent. Users can e-mail themselves jobs they like and go through the whole applicant tracking process from a desktop computer. Content is provided by JobCentral, mJob clients and we’ll look at adding more sources in the future.
We’re under no illusion here at mJob that we don’t have a long way to go in making this journey complete. User feedback, as always, will be important, and you can’t get that if you don’t get on the field in the first place. Step one is just getting into the game. We’ll get better from there. And well, hell, it’s just fun to be on the iPhone.
