Mediabistro is hosting Career Circus August 4th in New York City. The half-day event will feature expert career guidance, new online tools, peer support and techniques for managing your career.

Career Circus, which is a spin-off of Mediabistro Circus, isn’t a career fair, but an educational event designed to help you brush up on your skills and education and provide you with inspiration to move your career forward.

The event will be beneficial to media professionals who are just getting into or considering a transition out of the industry, as well as unemployed journalists, editors, writers, producers, graphic designers, book publishers and anyone else interested in gaining new skills and techniques.

Speakers will include: Laurie Ruettimann, founder of Punk Rock HR; Alan Cohen, executive leadership coach, public relations advisor and president of Acts Of Balance Coaching; Stella Grizont and Karla Lightfoot, New York and New Jersey area leaders of Ladies Who Launch; Consultant Jen Groover; Writer Paul Hoffman; Tonia Mattu, career consultant at Mercury Group LLC; Pollock Spark President Michael Pollock; Gary Vaynerchuk, host of Wine Library TV; Scott Wayne, principal of The Frontier Project; and Manoush Zomorodi, reporter, anchor and host for Reuters Television.

“I feel a tremendous amount of compassion for job seekers in the media industry,” Ruettimann said when asked why she’s speaking at the event. “They’ve been hit hard by the recession, and many of them are struggling to apply their skills in a new media world. There is so much free content out there, and paid professionals are struggling to keep up with technology and cultural trends in an industry that has less money to spend on talent. I applaud mediabistro’s commitment to building a community where people can meet and exchange information, ideas and tips. I want to support this community and help it grow.”

There also will be five-minute speed sessions with career coaches to help you learn how to boost your career. Individuals can register for the event for $145, or those in a group of two or more can register for $100 per person.
