Although the big three job boards still seem to be drawing the most traffic, several smaller job sites are getting more attention.

ComScore recently released an overview of its career services & development category based on data from the company’s Media Metrix and Marketer.

Not surprisingly, the company found that more than 65 million Americans visited the category during June, a 10 percent increase from last year. This makes it one of the top-growing site categories, and seven of the top 10 sites in the category saw double-digit gains.

CareerBuilder was at the top of the category with 21.7 million unique visitors; followed by Yahoo! HotJobs with 17.9 million visitors, a 23 percent increase from last year; and Monster.com with 14.5 million visitors, a 6 percent increase.

The following three ranked sites have each achieved substantial growth during the past year, with Indeed increasing 59 percent to 8 million visitors, Job.com Sites increasing 46 percent to 7.4 million visitors and SnagAJob up 48 percent to 4.7 million visitors. Those sites were followed by Simply Hired, Jobsonline.net, OPM and Brassring.com.

“Job and career-related resources continue to be one of the fastest-growing categories online, which is not surprising given the current state of the economy and the number of people seeking job opportunities and career advice,” Jeff Hackett, comScore senior vice president, said.

“The top three sites in the category – CareerBuilder, HotJobs and Monster – have maintained their leadership positions for several years now, but there are also a few upstarts in the industry making some noise,” he added. “Certainly with millions of Americans reevaluating their careers right now there is opportunity for continued growth and innovation in this segment of the online marketplace.”

Btw…comScore is probably the worst judge of traffic. The panel method might have worked w/ Neilsen was tracking TV shows back when Archie Bunker was the top show, but there are much better ways to judge traffic now. Like actually tagging sites and counting each time a new person shows up…something like that.

comScore is a joke. Those that are members always somehow see the best “results”.
