Here’s an odd tale of a new Web video series that aims to take a humorous look at the quest for employment.
“Hard Times,” created by New York-based actors Michael Ferrell and Shawn Patrick Murphy, is a comedy Web series about two friends living in New York City who are out of work and beginning the daunting task of undertaking a job search.
The series was created by Ferrell when he began writing short scripts during his own unemployment period. The scripts humorously reflect the concerns of unemployment, a tough economy and getting through everyday life.
Still unemployed, Ferrell and some friends got together and started shooting the series. While in production, he got hired for a full-time job at a new media production company, where he was able to sharpen his knowledge of Web video and hire an editor.
Whether coincidence or not, on the release date for the pilot episode of “Hard Times,” Ferrell learned he was going to be laid off from his three-month stint at the media production company.
Ferrell is an actor, writer and producer who has had many plays produced in New York City and has acted in numerous films, plays and industrials. He has experience training as an improviser at I.O. in Chicago and as an actor at The Barrow Group in New York, as well as an acting degree from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
