A site touted as the first “career GPS” recently released what it calls an innovative, scientific tool for executing an effective online job search.
UpMo’s Intelligent Job Hunt is a personalized agent that uses expert insights, data-modeling and an algorithmic engine to pinpoint the precise actions professionals should take and specific opportunities they should pursue in order to find the right job faster.
The feature uses multiple context-aware algorithms to identify and prioritize highly-compatible job matches based on the dimensions of a user’s career. The tool analyzes the user’s career roadmap, which includes past, present and future jobs, as well as other attributes, such as their network connections and professionals they’d like to emulate, in order to find the most relevant and desirable job openings the user could ultimately secure.
The Intelligent Job Hunt finds lateral and vertical moves, jobs on the horizon, similar positions in different industries and relevant job opportunities that can be accessed by tapping into a user’s specific professional network. The company says this is especially important, as 80 percent of jobs are obtained through networking.
In addition to finding qualified job matches, the tool also provides users with opportunity-specific guidance, including insights and career intelligence from hiring managers, placement firms and successful professionals.
“Job boards don’t expose matches; they produce wide, impersonal listings that job-seekers must laboriously sort through to identify the few, highly-compatible opportunities,” CEO Promise Phelon said. “Your job search should not be a full-time job. We’ve analyzed data and have spoken with hiring managers, placement firms and career management professionals to determine the criteria for ‘the right match.’ This research resulted in our game-changing job-matching agent – the Intelligent Job Hunt.”

I’m a huge fan and very active user of UpMo, and I love the Intelligent Job Hunt. What’s great about it (in my opinion) is that, like all of UpMo’s modules, it’s an agent that gets smarter the more you use it. All Monster, Indeed, etc. can do is spit me back results based on a keyword and/or set of parameters; even job “matching” engines like JobFox are built around employers’ needs rather than job seekers’. The IJH first gets to know me (my current job, my future career goals, my professional network), then helps me see where I can go next in my career. This is the key insight that really makes UpMo stand out from the pack: it’s not just about helping you get a job today, or even tomorrow. It’s about helping you visualize your own career path and giving you the knowledge and tools you need to take control of it. I highly encourage people to check it out!
