By Vanessa Dennis - They make us laugh. They make us scream in frustration. They educate us on everything from sourcing on Twitter to developing employee referral programs to positing the importance of candidate pipelines. They talk numbers, they talk economy, and boy, are they good at talking about themselves. I'm referring to the people behind recruiting blogs. Our world wouldn't be complete without their daily dose of gossip and gloating and goings-on in the employment space. They're crazy, they're sexy, they're cool - and some of them love to get soused (ERE after hours, anyone?). So what's the secret to their success, besides good old-fashioned content?

By Colleen Aylward - Obama is racially and ethnically blended - only partially black, as a race, and Kenyan as an ethnicity, and partially white as a race, and Irish as an ethnicity . . . he is more similar to the growing majority of people as the world becomes smaller and more interracial unions take place. In his article “The Changing Definition of Workplace Diversity, William G. Shackelford expands on the definition of diversity: “In its broadest context, diversity candidates are being defined as individuals who bring unique perspectives or outlooks to the organization." According to this relatively new body of research metrics and projections, we will undoubtedly be looking at changing definitions of minorities and enhancing our recruiting strategies to include many more types of diversity.

By Vanessa Dennis - I've been meaning to pen my thoughts after watching Kevin Wheeler's presentation at ERE Expo 2008 last week on how recruiting is faring around the world. These are just a few things I learned about global recruiting and the talent shortage/demand that's cropping up in some surprising areas. It's so important to check the global pulse of recruiting as often as possible, as Wheeler's presentation suggests. I think that Americans live in somewhat of a bubble, and many don't look outside their window to gain a wider, more appreciative perspective.

By Art Papas - The reality is now that negative sentiment has grown so strong that it will no doubt affect the recruiting and staffing market in the short term. It’s budgeting season, and executives and managers around the world are nervous about the economic outlook. This will alter hiring plans in 2009. The coming quarters will bring a different market than we’ve experienced in the last 4 years. Staffing and recruiting professionals face two choices: stick to business as usual, or build a plan to win in a new environment. I see three big opportunities to get ahead of the competition.

With a basic level product and a "pro" version, Standout Jobs is looking to get a monthly fee of $249 to $416 to support its staff of 10 and accommodate future growth prospects.

By Vanessa Dennis - The best part about working from home, many telecommuters will probably agree, is the peace and quiet. You can stay in your jammies, rummage for lunch in your own fridge, and curl up on your couch with your Bluetooth and laptop, all while regular commuters toil through long lines at the subway, traffic congestion, smog, and one-finger salutes. However, there are drawbacks to working from home. People may experience withdrawal symptoms of depression, loneliness, and isolation. And people feed off of and inspire each other when working in close quarters, which can bolster creativity and sustain our need for face-to-face connectivity. Coworking is a new trend cropping up in metropolitan areas that is a compromise between these two working conditions.
