By Colleen Aylward - Obama is racially and ethnically blended - only partially black, as a race, and Kenyan as an ethnicity, and partially white as a race, and Irish as an ethnicity . . . he is more similar to the growing majority of people as the world becomes smaller and more interracial unions take place. In his article “The Changing Definition of Workplace Diversity, William G. Shackelford expands on the definition of diversity: “In its broadest context, diversity candidates are being defined as individuals who bring unique perspectives or outlooks to the organization." According to this relatively new body of research metrics and projections, we will undoubtedly be looking at changing definitions of minorities and enhancing our recruiting strategies to include many more types of diversity.

By Vanessa Dennis - I've been meaning to pen my thoughts after watching Kevin Wheeler's presentation at ERE Expo 2008 last week on how recruiting is faring around the world. These are just a few things I learned about global recruiting and the talent shortage/demand that's cropping up in some surprising areas. It's so important to check the global pulse of recruiting as often as possible, as Wheeler's presentation suggests. I think that Americans live in somewhat of a bubble, and many don't look outside their window to gain a wider, more appreciative perspective.

By Vanessa Dennis - The best part about working from home, many telecommuters will probably agree, is the peace and quiet. You can stay in your jammies, rummage for lunch in your own fridge, and curl up on your couch with your Bluetooth and laptop, all while regular commuters toil through long lines at the subway, traffic congestion, smog, and one-finger salutes. However, there are drawbacks to working from home. People may experience withdrawal symptoms of depression, loneliness, and isolation. And people feed off of and inspire each other when working in close quarters, which can bolster creativity and sustain our need for face-to-face connectivity. Coworking is a new trend cropping up in metropolitan areas that is a compromise between these two working conditions.
