By Rathin Sinha - While this recession has affected many Americans, it has been especially hard for certain segments of the U.S. workforce. Diversity groups have lost more jobs than the average, and unemployment went up for veterans, older workers and workers with disabilities. It has also been very difficult for recent college graduates to find suitable employment. Clearly, there is an urgent need to cater to these special segments of job seekers with relevant job posting content and with the proper tools to find a job. However, there is no clear dominant player to help all these special groups in a meaningful way.

By Jen Carpenter - Is a high rate of unemployment and a low chance of finding exactly the right job driving American workers out of the country? How to keep the American workforce - especially younger and Generation Y workers - in the United States is an issue that recruiters and employers are increasingly having to deal with. The problem isn't that there aren't enough workers to fill positions, as there are often several available job seekers for any one opening. However, many of the country's more skilled workers are getting frustrated with taking pay cuts and jobs below their experience level, so they're seeking new opportunities in new places.

By Jen Carpenter - Tuesday is traditionally an employee's most productive day of the week, so I thought it would be a good time to take an in-depth look at how employee productivity is being swayed by the current state of the economy, a topic that has been gaining a lot traction as of late. Employee productivity is something that affects employees, employers and HR teams, especially during a recession. Some experts say the economy is increasing employee productivity, because people who are scared of losing their jobs are going to work harder in hopes of remaining employed. The push has led to an increase in questions regarding best practices for optimizing for Bing. You can argue for or against whether or not two main search players instead of three is a good thing, but the heightened interest is what it is. And although it’s early in the game, here are five tips on getting the most out of your Bing traffic numbers.

By Jen Carpenter - MeritBuilder, a personal branding platform, allows users to collect the "thank you's" they receive and display them for everyone to see. The site enables workers to build a portable brand and employers to improve the way they thank and value their employees. The site allows you to share merits through RSS feeds, blogs or social networking sites. You can even e-mail merits to people. The company hopes the ease and inclusiveness of the site will put it on track to one day join, or potentially replace, the resume as the document of choice for job seekers.

By Jen Carpenter - KODA.us, a social recruiting site for job seekers and companies, recently secured an additional $1 million in funding from a group of private angel investors. So far, the company has raised $3 million and has marked the completion of its first round of funding. The funding has been used to move the site's focus to an equal relationship between job seekers and companies, as well as redesigning the site and updating its technology. And investors aren't the only ones taking notice of KODA, which has been getting positive feedback from job seekers, companies and communities in need.
