    Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu, which is the capital of Hawaii, is the state’s most populated city. It’s situated on the southeast coast of the island of Oahu. In the native Hawaiian tongue, Honolulu means either “sheltered bay” or “place of shelter.”

Honolulu was originally settled by Polynesians. Although when they did so is unknown, it is believed to be sometime around the 12th century. In the 1800s the city became the Hawaiian islands’ center of commerce.
