    Ohio Jobs

    By Job Gal | June 20, 2008

Ohio is located in the Midwestern United States. It has the highest population density of any state not on the Eastern Seaboard, and is the seventh most populated state in the nation.

Ohio was the first state admitted into the Union under the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. Columbus serves as the state’s capital.

Ohio is deemed as the birthplace of aviation, as the Wright brothers performed their experiments in Dayton, Ohio. The state has over 2,500 lakes and 43,000 miles of river, attracting many boaters, fishermen and swimmers.

Native American historical sites, amusement parks and the Amish population also attract tourists. In addition, Ohio is known for its high level of medical care, including the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals of Cleveland and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

    Ohio’s Job Market
Ohio is a major producer of machines, tires, rubber products, steel, processed foods, tools and other manufactured goods. The state also specializes in capital goods, or goods used to make other products. Ohio also is home to several automobile plants.

The state has many aerospace, defense, and NASA parts and systems suppliers. Ohio’s location in the Corn Belt, and the state’s small commercial fishing sector on Lake Erie, play important roles in the economy.

According to the Ohio Department of Agriculture, in 2001, Ohio ranked first in making Swiss cheese, second in eggs, third in tomatoes, fifth in milk, sixth in corn, sixth in soybean, eighth in grapes, ninth in hogs, ninth in floriculture and 11th in apples.
