Portland, Oregon
Portland is a city located in the Northwest United States, near the Willamette and Columbia rivers. Portland is the most populous city in the State of Oregon, and the third most populous city in the Northwest. Portland has been referred to as the greenest city in the country.
Portland was founded in 1843 by William Overton and Asa Lovejoy. The city was named after Francis W. Pettygrove of Portland, Maine, after he acquired Overton’s portion of the land. Portland was incorporated as a city in 1851. The city grew quickly because of its proximity to the Pacific Ocean.
Portland’s location is beneficial for several industries, and relatively low energy cost, accessible resources, North-South and East-West Interstates, international air terminals, large marine shipping facilities and both west coast intercontinental railroads are all economic advantages.
