Rhode Island
Rhode Island is located in the northern area of the United States referred to as New England and is the smallest state in the country. It is bordered by Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and the Atlantic Ocean. No matter where one is located in the diminutive state, the ocean is no more than a 45-minute drive away.
Originally founded as an area of religious refuge, Rhode Island has a history of independent thought. Of the original 13 American colonies, it was the first to declare independence from England and ratify the constitution. The state was also the first to enact a law prohibiting slavery in America
