    Salt Lake City Jobs

    By Job Tipster | October 6, 2008

    Salt Lake City, Utah

Voted the Number 1 City for Job Growth in America in 2008 by Forbes magazine, Salt Lake City is both the capital and most populated city in Utah. The city was originally founded by Mormon pioneers under the leadership of the Christian sect’s prophet, Brigham Young, in 1847.

The group had fled persecution for their beliefs of polygamy, the practice of having multiple wives, which was abandoned by the main religion in 1890. Salt Lake City is still the headquarters for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormon Church.

Economic growth was brought to Salt Lake City by a major boom in mining and the arrival of the first transcontinental railroad. Due to a rise in the popularity of skiing and other outdoor sports, the area has a strong tourism industry. Salt Lake city hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002 and is the United States’ center for industrial banking.
